However, it took me until 25 to begin to seriously consider a career making art and even longer to label myself a ‘professional’ artist. I dabbled with a range of possible professions and then found myself working in marketing in a traditional business environment for many years. This was probably the best experience I could have asked for. It kept me grounded and provided a skill set which I think is key to survival in the rapidly shifting landscape in which artists are faced with today. The path of a creative person is fraught with difficulty and challenge, but now that I’ve found it, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’ve lived in the UAE for much of my life and my studio space is right in the middle of the city . I’ve been organising pop-up shows with fellow artists over the past 5 years and in 2013 established ‘No White Walls,’ an artist-led initiative that develops exhibitions and projects throughout the UAE. More information about No White Walls can be found on our facebook page. I think it's important to share the journey of being an artist with others and hold artist talks as often as I can.
